Bridgend mp  Madeleine Moon  used a House of Commons debate to urge the NHS to save money by using South Wales maggots to clean wounds.

She said: 'Maggots are highly precise - unlike surgeons, they only remove the rotting tissue.'

Public Health Minister Caroline Flint said the idea of using maggots farmed by Bridgend company Zoobiotic was 'illuminating'. Researchers are assessing the possibility of using maggots to treat MRSA.
