Madeleine Moon MP for Bridgend
has invited David Miliband MP, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to visit her Bridgend Constituency.
Taking part in the Climate Change
debate in the House of Commons, Mrs Moon called on the Secretary of State, when looking at renewable technology, to consider
other sources of carbon emissions such as landfill.
“The UK is currently under increasing pressure
to meet a range of environmental targets” Mrs Moon said.
“Among the most demanding
are achieving 10% of our electricity supply from renewable energy sources by 2010 and reducing the amount of biodegradable
waste sent to landfill.”
Mrs Moon highlighted the work
of a unique project in the Bridgend Constituency, Inetec, who use food waste and packaging to create energy that is often
utilised for combined heat and power units.
“I was extremely impressed
with what I saw at Inetec. The proven conversion process converts all food waste into bio fuel, a source of renewable green
energy. This process could even be utilised in Parliament.
“Issues of climate change
and energy are a key priority for the Government. With the publication of the energy review, the UK’s long term energy
policy in the face of mounting global threats posed by climate change and to energy security is essential.
“Inetec is just the sort
of company that provides a valid insight into the important role that bio fuels can play in averting the energy crisis and
countering climate change.”
