Bridgend MP Madeleine Moon has
welcomed news that Bridgend Railway Station is to receive investment to improve access for disabled people.
In March this year, the Government
launched the Railways for All strategy, a key objective of which is to improve
accessibility at railway stations. £370 million has been committed to the ongoing renewal of stations and station improvement
projects.
“This is excellent news
for Bridgend. Disabled access at the station is an issue that I have raised with the Ministers at the Department for Transport
both in debates and by letter.
“I have been alarmed to
hear from many of my Constituents that they had to plan their journey at least 24 hours in advance to access the London
platform. The Railway Station insisted that it must be given a minimum of 24 hours notice to open a side gate in order for
people to access the Cardiff and London
platform.
“As a result, I asked the
Secretary of State for Transport if he would review current arrangements at Bridgend Railway Station, relating to access for
disabled members of my Constituency.
“The Minister gave me his
personal assurances that he would review the situation.
“I am delighted that Bridgend
has been chosen as one of the stations involved in the programme.”
