Madeleine Moon MP has welcomed
the Budget unveiled by Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown, as: ‘A Budget for Britain’s
families.’
Bridgend MP Madeleine Moon today
commented that: “This Budget delivers increases in spending on public services; increases education spending to its
highest ever levels, support families with children, and takes 600,000 pensioners out of income tax; ensuring prosperity and
fairness for the families in my constituency.”
The Budget has also provided
an extra £1 billion for the Welsh Assembly Government in order that they can continue to promote economic prosperity for Wales.
Overshadowed by the media furore
around the cut in the basic rate of income tax to its lowest level in 75 years is the main focus of this Budget; and that
is the great news for hardworking families. It was announced that child benefit will rise over the next three years to £20
a week and an increase in the child element of the Child Tax Credit by £150 per year. This is great news for the five and
half thousand children already benefiting from Child Tax Credits in the Bridgend constituency.
This Budget therefore builds Britain’s long-term future ensuring
prosperity and fairness for families in Bridgend and throughout the UK.
